Founded in 2012 by a Franco-American team (including Yoav Kutner - co-founder and former CTO of Magento) Akeneo is an open source PIM (Product Information Management) tool for merchants wishing to centralise all of their information products in a centralised location.
Purposefully designed to be a productivity tool for non-technical teams, Akeneo simply allows you to:
- interface with third-party systems (ERP, database providers, Excel) to collect product data
- classify, enrich, translate this product data from a management interface
- monitor data quality (completeness, validation rules, ...)
- export data to various sales channels (e-commerce sites, mobile applications, printed catalogues ...)
Akeneo is based on the Symfony2 framework and application platform Oro Platorm.
Distributed under the OSL 3.0 license, the first public beta of Akeneo was released at the end of september 2013.

“ Akeneo est n'est pas une mauvaise solution en soi mais reste limitée quant à des problématiques avancées. De plus, il reste plus onéreux que d'autres solutions PIM (Pimcore par exemple). ”
