CiviCRM is an open source CRM platform targeted at non-profit organizations. It started around 2006 as a module or extension on top of the most popular CMS like Drupal or Joomla and has grown in usage and features since then. I'ts maintained by both a dedicated core team and a community of users and enthusiasts that ensure its evolution linked to the same non-profit values of their own organizations.
As a non-profit targeted CRM, its distinctive features include the management of subscriptions, donations and memberships as well as event organizations. Here the classic "Lead", "Contact", "Account" CRM entites have been complemented with the "Member", "Volunteer" and "Advocate", among others. Collaboration schemes are also targeted to this type of organizations.
CiviCRM is currently available as an extension of Drupal (most popular), Joomla or Wordpress and this is a particular approach that brings benefits in terms of codebase and extensibility at the expense of having to stay up to date on the progress of three different CMS.
CiviCRM is licensed under the Affero General Public License 3 (GNU AGPL3) with a License exception.

“ J'ai installé et testé CIVICRM, principalement en comparaison de Vtiger, pour une gestion d'association (festival). Solution abandonnée (au profit de Vtiger) car usine à gaz pas du tout "friendly", des menus et options interminables, interfaces trop chargées. Plutôt destiné à de grosses organisations, genre humanitaire, avec une formation longue pour les utilisateurs. ”
