JFreeReport joined the Pentaho project in early 2006. The name, JFreeReport, has gradually been abandoned in favour of Pentaho Report Designer (PRD). PRD allows for the development of complex reports and, when used with the Pentaho platform, can publish them directly on the decision server. At the time of writing, PRD was available in version 5.0.

Pentaho Report Designer is an easy to use tool that is fully integrated with Pentaho's BI suite for parameter management and online publication. It can generate reports in PDF, HTML, XML, CSV, RTF and XLS formats and supports multiple data sources. It now includes the big data components from the latest version of Pentaho Data Integration (Pentaho ETL).Since 5.0.1 version, a wizard to design PivotTable is available but still experimental.

Pentaho Report Designer has only a community edition (under the LGPL).
