SugarCRM is an open source customer relationship management suite. It was first distributed in 2004 and SugarCRM, Inc. has since continued to develop and maintain it. The vendor is based in Cupertino, California.
SugarCRM has evolved to cover all the main features of customer management and the sales cycle. It boasts an impressive list of functionalities, ranging from marketing and mass broadcasting campaigns to leads, by way of contact and account management, and more. The latest versions (particularly since version 6) have emphasised mobile CRM (native applications) and the integration of a Social CRM dimension. Recent enhancements have been made on the Calendar module and the mobile interface, as well as on its social connectors. Its overall performance has also been improved.
SugarCRM comes in three types: a Community edition (free, open source), an Enterprise edition (with additional functionalities) and a SaaS edition (on demand). The Community edition (published under the Affero GNU Public License v3) has a much smaller scope than the other editions.
The product is based on a LAMP platform, with a number of possible variants in respect to databases and web servers (so long as PHP can be run).

“ Sugarcrm has so much promise and flexibility, but unfortunately my firm has been unwilling to invest due to the fact the company straddles the line between an open source and a proprietary product. The way the licensing is presented makes it difficult to know if we own the code we develop, and there is always the possibility of being left unsupported in the future. We have recently been investing in the fork of sugarcrm called suitecrm and it answers the vast majority of our issues with sugar. ”

“ I had few questions in order to purchase this CRM, unfortunately, nobody answered mine (the chat closed each time i tried). I am quite disapointed and I rather prefer ask for another CRM instead of SugarCRM. ”
