Amazon’s CTO Werner Vogels has said that the use of open source software and the immediate availability of scaleable cloud technology help startups to focus on innovation.

According to The Next Web, Vogels made his comments at the Financial Times’ Innovate Conference, which was help in London this month. He stated that cloud was a "business revolution" giving small businesses and start-ups the opportunity to access scalable services and therefore to adapt their business model in terms of their growth. Comments regarding cloud are not surprising coming from an actor who invests heavily in this market.

More surprisingly, however, is that Amazon also recommends that small companies and start-ups, who want to compete with multinational companies, use open source solutions. The e-commerce giant boasts not only the fact that their software is free, but also its quality, which is sometimes better than their proprietor and paid software rivals. Choosing open source is a small investment for companies, meaning that they no longer need to deploy half of their engineers to work only on the IT infrastructure and thus they can focus more on the development of their product, stated Werner Vogels.
